Training Specialist, National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments
Tim Duffey has over 25 years experience in the field of positive youth development (PYD). In 2013 he co-founded Bolster Collaborative, Inc. as an extension of PYD work he led through Vision Training Associates, Inc. (VTA) for more than a decade. In that time, VTA served as the sole-source provider of training and speaking services for Search Institute (Minneapolis, MN), serving customers across North America and internationally. Both businesses have a reputation for high quality, science-based content delivered in highly interactive modalities, both live and online. This work is centered in science-informed, strength-based approaches to youth empowerment and engagement. Tim has presented on PYD principles in nearly 40 states, several Canadian provinces, and numerous countries internationally.
Vision Training Associates is currently a partner in the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments, funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Safe and Healthy Students, where Tim serves as Training Specialist and Training Task Leader. In this role, Tim has led development of the Center’s School Climate Webinar Series and the following toolkits: Creating a Safe and Respectful Environment on our Nation’s School Buses; Creating a Safe and Respectful Environment in our Nation’s Classrooms (both bullying prevention); Get Smart, Get Help, Get Safe (teen dating abuse prevention); Nurturing the Strength to Overcome: Improving Conditions for Learning (resiliency—not released); Addressing the Root Causes of Disparities in School Discipline, and Safe Place: Trauma-Sensitive Practice for Health Centers Serving Students. In the past year he has also provided support to recipients of Elementary and Secondary School Counseling grants.
Other areas of emphasis for Tim’s work in recent years include staffing the technical assistance team for a research grant funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse and coordinated by RAND Corporation. A major result of this effort is the online e-learning modules highlighting the Assets-Getting to Outcomes process. The modules are available at http://www.bolstercollaborative.com/elearning. He has also led development or revision of numerous training curricula in work with Search Institute, including: Building Assets Reducing Risks, Essentials of Asset Building Training of Trainers, Building Developmental Assets Training of Trainers, and Heroic Choices (in support of children directly impacted by the 9/11 attacks).
