Delegate at Large G: Susan Hunt, BA, CYC-P

Susan began her career as a Child and Youth Care practitioner in 1994 in Ontario Canada. After completing a 3 year CYW diploma program, she relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia and for the past 23+ years has worked in a wide variety of therapeutic settings that include therapeutic treatment centres, group homes, family and community outreach, as well as within the education/public school system. With the majority of her career being spent in the area of child and youth mental health and after many years in front line roles supporting children, youth and families struggling with issues of mental illness and trauma, she began to shift her focus to working alongside community partners in program development and in leadership roles mentoring other CYC practitioners. This led her to returning to post-secondary school to further her education and, in 2016, she completed her Child and Youth Care Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Fraser Valley.

As a result of this decision, she had the opportunity to participate in and lead a program development project within a large Provincial organization which involved an in-depth review of service delivery and was successful in incorporating the principles of a trauma informed approach into practice. This project was published in the International Journal of Child, Youth and Family Studies [(2018) 9(1): 54–68 DOI:]. She has had several opportunities to present this work in various National and International conferences.

Upon completion of this project and her BA in Child and Youth Care, she also achieved certification as a CYC Professional through the Child and Youth Care Certification Board (CYCCB). She continues to work with the CYCCB in assessing certification portfolios and has been very excited this past year to have also joined the ACYCP Board. She is passionate about the growth and recognition of the CYC Profession and looks forward to continuing this advocacy work.
