Certification Renewal Process for Those Who Became Certified During the Pilot Testing Phase

Practitioners who were certified during the NACP Pilot Testing Program will receive special consideration depending on whether they completed the abbreviated pilot testing application process or the full pilot testing application process (which included submission of the long version of the supervisor assessment, complete application form, electronic portfolio, and survey forms).

  1. All certificates issued during the Pilot Testing Program will be replaced by new certificates sometime during 2008.  The new certificates will list CYCCB as the issuing authority and will include a certificate number.  The issue dates will remain the same.  The new certificate will be the one that will be renewed.  It will be listed under your name with a unique certificate number.  There is no charge for this conversion.  The original certificates demonstrate that you were one of the practitioners who helped to move the profession forward as national certification was created.  CYCCB encourages you to display the certificate and take pride in your contribution.  Certification could not have been developed without your support.

  2. Practitioners who completed the abbreviated pilot testing application process qualify for a 3-year renew period (for their first renewal cycle, only).  The requirements for renewal were changed following the pilot testing effort.  The extended renewal period is CYCCB’s way of honoring the commitment made to pilot testing practitioners while standardizing the overall certification system over time.  After the initial 3-year renewal, all certificates will be renewed on a 2-year cycle.  All pilot testing certificates were issued between 2/1/2007 and 3/1/2008.

Between 2/1/2008 and 3/1/2009 (first year of certification) – no renewal activity is required. CYCCB is using this period to grant you the extra year in the cycle.

Between 2/1/2009 and 3/1/2010 (second year of certification) – all pilot testing certificates will be required to submit payment of $15.00 maintenance fee (the due date can be computed by adding 2 years to the issue date on the certificate).

Between 2/1/2010 and 3/1/2011 (third year of certification) – all pilot testing certificates will be required to:

1.      Submit payment of $35.00 renewal processing fee made payable to CYCCB.

2.  Documentation of 30 hours of continuing education (15 hours each year) that occurred within the previous 2 year period that reflect content in at least 3 competency domains.

3.  Documentation of current membership in a professional organization within the field of child and youth care.

 4.  Practitioners who completed the full pilot testing application process (which included submission of the long version of the supervisor assessment,  complete application form, electronic portfolio, and survey forms) qualify for a  6-year renew period (for their first renewal cycle, only).  To qualify for this extended renewal period, you should have submitted the 3 survey forms.  If you have not received a letter from NACP or CYCCB informing you that the   6-year renewal has been granted, please contact the CYCCB office.  Some participants in this program did not submit the survey forms.  These can still be submitted and must be submitted before the 6-year renewal will be granted.

After the initial 6-year renewal, all certificates will be renewed on a 2-year cycle.  All pilot testing certificates were issued between 2/1/2007 and 3/1/2008.

Between 2/1/2013 and 3/1/2014 – all pilot testing certificates will be required to:

1.      Submit payment of $50.00 renewal processing fee made payable to CYCCB.

2.  Documentation of 30 hours of continuing education (15 hours each year) that occurred during the previous two year period and that reflect content in at least 3 competency domains.

3.  Documentation of current membership in a professional organization within the field of child and youth care.
